Description
Before Westfield could start building one of the most popular malls in the LA suburbs, Sharma over excavated and recompacted 445,000 cubic yards of earth over a 35 acre site to make way for multiple buildings. Part of the process included placing a surcharge pile and monitoring plates as well as excavating and exporting another 90,000 cubic yards of soil. Then team members backfilled and compacted tunnel walls and the top of the tunnel, Finally, they provided finish grading for the courtyard and walkways.
Challenges
Large sites like this one often have many utilities and other trades working over and around one another. The walkway grading was particularly challenging in these circumstances as there were multiple sections and significant obstacles.
